March 30, 2016

Most Memorable Events of the Day:
  • A very early morning, but I was super excited!  We boarded the train and headed to DC for the day.
  • After breakfast at Union Station, we went to the park to feed the squirrels.  There were lots of them but they seemed a little more timid and didn't get as close as usual.  They sure liked the peanuts though.
  • We walked through the Botanical Gardens.  Mommy and Daddy really loved the orchids.  I was more excited about the water fountains!
  • Next we walked through the Sculpture garden then to the Natural History Museum.  We saw the dinosaurs and lots of insects.  My favorite (and Mommy's too) was the time we spent in the butterfly pavilion.  We had so much fun and it was so cool to have the butterflies flying all around.  Mommy had one tickle her ear with its wings and I was able to hold one.  I was really worried about the one I was holding because it seemed to have a hurt wing.  I carried it to the volunteer working in there but she thought it was okay and that it just liked me.
  • After another walk and lunch at a big food court, we got on the Metro for a little ride.
  • We walked again, this time to the zoo.  I was so excited to see the pandas!  We saw three, Mama, Daddy, and Bao Bao.  Bei Bei was hiding behind Mama's area taking a nap, so we only got to see him on the cameras.  It must have been snack time since they were all eating their bamboo.  I also was excited to see the elephants, gazelles, cheetahs, and otters.  At the gift shop, I got a beautiful butterfly mood bracelet and a new fox stuffed animal to sleep with.  I was so happy!
  • After another walk, metro ride, and train ride, we made it back to town.
  • It was a long day, so other than dinner and some rest time on the couch, we didn't do anything else before bed.
  • Mommy's reflections on the day:  butterflies are awesome (we are definitely doing that again) and bones are scary (Alyson cried slightly hysterically when we were around all of the animal skeletons.  She loved the dinosaur skeletons and fish skeletons, but the very large turtle and alligator skeletons were enough to do her in.  Also, a very tired Alyson is a very cranky Alyson.  My pedometer says 7.37 miles walked today, so I guess that is a lot for little legs, so I'll remember to be patient with her.
